Year 6 pupils from Tameside Primary Academy visited St Francis of Assisi Church at Friar Park as part of their Religious Education (RE) curriculum, gaining a closer insight into the Christian faith and the role of a local place of worship.
During the visit, pupils explored the church, looked at a range of religious artefacts and learned about the purpose of some of its key features. This allowed them to build on their RE lessons by seeing aspects of their learning in a real place of worship.
Pupils were welcomed by Father Stuart, who answered their questions and shared his knowledge of the church. The children listened with interest and showed respect for the building and its surroundings throughout the visit.
School Associate Principal, Cem Yalluri, said: “It’s important that children learn about different religions and beliefs, and understand the part they play in people’s lives. At Tameside, we encourage our pupils to be curious, think independently and ask questions. Learning about different faiths helps children develop a broader understanding of the world and the confidence to approach differences with knowledge, openness and respect.”
The visit was part of the Academy’s wider commitment to giving pupils opportunities to extend their learning beyond the classroom, while developing their knowledge of different faiths and beliefs.
