Tameside Primary Academy is committed to serving its community and embraces the belief that at the heart of a modern, ever-changing community is the acceptance of key British values.
The promotion of British values ensures pupils’ understanding of the values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty alongside mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. It is essential that our school ensures all of these are promoted and respected to enable our children to grow and develop with strong moral values. Through our diverse and innovative curriculum, explicit teachings through personal, social, health and emotional (PSHE), religious education (RE) and assemblies, we address the core ideals held by Britain, whilst challenging those that contradict them.
However, the understanding of British values is not only achieved through the curriculum, but through the school’s ethos as well as its provision for pupils beyond formal lessons. Within every aspect in our community, we are committed to ensuring that pupils behave in a way that is at all times accepting and open.
The Government set out its definition of British values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy; these values were reiterated in 2014. It is the responsibility of Tameside Primary Academy to ensure that our children follow these so that they are prepared for life in modern Britain.
